Hi my name is Lily.  My first owner did not know how to handle a dog with epilepsy so they didn’t give me my medication.  I had seizures and they didn’t want to take care of me anymore.  The neighbor found out about me before my owner was able to get rid of me and she discovered that epilepsy is easy to control with inexpensive medication.  She was very nice, but could not keep me.  She called the nice foster people and I am now waiting for my forever home.

I love attention and I am very gentle.  If you rub my tummy, I will lay on my back and beg for more.  I get along with other dogs and I like cats and kids too. My foster mom says anyone would be lucky to have me because I am so sweet!

If you think I am the right dog for you, please fill out an application with my name on it and email my foster family at phylliskayjohnson@gmail.com about your interest or with questions, so they can contact you about becoming my new forever home.

NOTE:  My eyes don’t really glow, it’s just the camera that was used…lol!

Here’s my story:  I was the cute adorable puppy who was bought to be the best friend of a young girl.  She grew up and went away to college.  That left me at home all alone.  And when I say alone, I mean alone.  The mom of the house works a lot and has an active social life which left me all by myself for over 12 hours a day.  Sometimes, I would be home from early in the morning with a quick visit for a potty break at dinner time and then left alone again until after midnight.  My “girl” was gone and the mom always said she wasn’t a dog person.

Thankfully, the mom of the house cared enough that she contacted the rescue organization.   I ended up in a foster home . . . it’s a great thing because my life is changing for the better.   When I arrived here, I would pace for hours when given a rawhide stick.  I’d hold it in my mouth and make it last as long as I could.   You see, in the life I knew before I had to make the rawhides last because that is how I entertained myself for hours when left alone.

My foster family loves me.  I love everyone.  I get along with all other dogs, the cat and enjoy every visitor that stops by.   I am a loyal dog who loves to snuggle on the sofa and go for walks.  Unlike puppies, I do not chew on things, I potty outside, I only bark occasionally and my leash manners are great.  I prefer to sleep on my dog bed burrowed under soft blankets but will sleep snuggled up in a big bed too.  Foster mom calls me an easy keeper.   All I know is that I really enjoy getting attention and the belly rubs are so wonderful.

I am healthy, up to date on all shots, neutered, the ideal weight, house trained, heartworm negative and on monthly heartworm and flea protection.

I love it here; however, I want to have my own family.   Please fill out an application with my name on it and email my foster family at savedoxies@gmail.com about your interest or with questions, so they can contact you about becoming my new forever home.

Chili (11-20)

Chili is the ever so handsome poster child for amazing transformation.  He was reluctantly surrendered when his parents had a new human child, and his people felt he was too excitable and unpredictable to be around the baby.  He came with a history of submissive/excitement urination, potty mistakes in the house and in his crate to the point that he was diapered when not crated, uncontrollable energy, a toy and dog bed destroyer and eater.  He didn’t learn much of anything in the training course he was enrolled in, so he didn’t seem very bright.  Since his dad had allergies to dogs, he was never able to sleep in the big bed and was crated during the day while his people were working and at night.  Coming into foster he had a weight of 8.2 lbs, far too little for his tweenie sized frame; you could see every bone in his body.  The first night he was here he almost literally bounced off the walls.  Chili, on intake, was a sweet but confused and very nervous hot mess.

We immediately had a series of blood tests run to see if there was physical cause for his emaciation.  While his digestive enzyme amylase showed low, indicating difficulties in digesting carbohydrates, serious underlying disease was thankfully ruled out.  We confirmed that Chili has a very high energy level and metabolic rate…he simply wasn’t being fed enough of the right food.  We increased his portions, fed three times daily for two weeks, put him on a grain free/commercial raw diet, and added some extra vitamins, probiotics, and supplements.  As a result, he’s gained 3 lbs. in the three weeks we’ve had him and only needs to gain another couple of pounds to be at his optimum weight.  But that’s not his best accomplishment.

Chili lost his frenetic bounding around by the third day here.  From the moment he came to us, we’ve never seen one instance of submissive/excitement urination, even when we deliberately challenged him by introducing new people and other dogs.  He had a couple of accidents in the house in his first week, none since he’s learned our routines; he does not mark.  He comes to tell me when he needs to go outside.  He does not soil his crate.  The only time I crate him is if I leave the house to run errands.  He’s learned many of the commands we use here quickly; he’s actually a very smart dog and is eager to please.  He still loves to run wildly around the backyard chasing squirrels, butterflies, birds and anything else that moves, but in the house, he’s calm and loves to snooze in laps or in a pile with our three doxie girls.  He’s sweet, affectionate, and has a very docile attitude with the other dogs; he’s a lover and a playmate, not a fighter.  After one verbal correction for nibbling on the dog bed, he hasn’t tried to chew it again.  He’s graduated to sleeping in the big bed and acts like he’s slept there his whole life. Walking into a busy pet store he’d never been to before he was a perfect gentleman, curious but well behaved and not afraid.  He walks beautifully on lead and adores going for walks.  You couldn’t ask for a better companion in a car; he’s interested but settles immediately.  He is a happy dog now and you can see it in his expressive face.  He loves people and is friendly to everybody no matter how many legs they have.

Except the cat.  Chili has a focused prey drive and he absolutely, positively cannot co-exist with a cat.  He gets enormously excited if he has a large ball to play with since that seems to also trigger his prey drive, and he’ll still shred soft toys, so right now our toys are restricted to nylabones and other hard chew toys.

Chili will reflect the energy level of the home in which he lives.  For that reason, he needs a forever family that’s calm and structured but still active physically.  Older dog savvy/respectful kids would be fine, other dogs would be a plus; he enjoys being part of a pack.  This boy has the talent to do well in agility; he can jump vertically and can bounce up and down like a kangaroo.  He’s the fastest little guy we’ve ever fostered and he keeps his muscles strong.  He needs a securely fenced yard for his exuberant running and he’ll be your best buddy on long walks.

In short, Chili’s a great little boy and he’s looking for a great family with which to share the rest of his life.  He’s loving and loyal…except for that cat thing; he’s a fantastic little man.

If you think Chili is the right dog for you, please fill out an application with his name on it and email his foster family at smrchld@gmail.com about your interest or with questions, so they can contact you becoming his new forever home.

Hello!  My name is Hershey, or sometimes Hershey Bar.  I am a dignified, well-mannered gentleman.  I don’t need to sit on your lap but I like knowing where you are, just in case you might go into the kitchen ‘cause that is where all the good stuff is!  No one is sure how old I am.  My foster parents estimate that I’m maybe 7 or 8 years old.  I don’t have any problem keeping up with my canine foster sisters and brothers, who are mostly all young whipper-snappers.  We all get along just fine and I’m perfectly happy to be part of the pack.

I am fascinated by cats and could watch them for hours but I still try to be respectful.  I have excellent leash manners and enjoy moderate walks every now and then.  I don’t bark much but sometimes I feel the need to announce myself.  I am a Dachshund, after all.

I am house-trained and my health is good.  When I was first rescued by FLDR, I had dental and skin problems.  No one had ever taken care of my teeth and someone splashed me with something that burned me.  After some dental work, a good diet, and lots of TLC, my coat is getting thick and glossy!  I’m happy and healthy and doing better than ever!

If you think I am the right dog for you, please fill out an application with my name on it and email my foster family at steelydog@me.com about your interest or with questions, so they can contact you about becoming my new forever home.

I am a fun loving boy. I love to swim, chase butterflies and dragon flies. My absolute favorite is playing fetch and tug of war. I am great with kids. I would definitely need an active home with a fenced yard for me to run around in. I play with my foster siblings and I love toys and people.

I am also a great cuddler and just love to lay with you under a blanket. Pet me and talk to me and I just moan and groan and fall to pieces. I am 100 % house-broken and crate trained. I sleep great in the crate at night, but would also love sleeping in your bed. My foster mom trusts me so much that when she is at work, I get the run of the house with my foster sisters and my brother Buddy. I look forward to hearing from you.

If you think I am the right dog for you, please fill out an application with my name on it and email my foster family at mvlachney@gmail.com about your interest or with questions, so they can contact you about becoming my new forever home.

I was an only dog, and my human mom took me to rescue, because she had to move where I wasn’t welcome.  They didn’t know that I’m cheerful, sweet, funny and perfectly housebroken (100% of the time; I NEVER have accidents).  When I first got here, I waited for my foster mom to go outside with me, but she taught me to use the doggie door (by propping it open).  I walk down three deck steps and back up, all on my own.

My perfect forever home would be as an only dog, or with another other dog.  I’m good with cats, and LOVE kids; even noisy, bouncy, pool splashing ones like my foster mom’s nephew.  He was gentle and sweet and I liked it when he petted me, and I kissed him on the chin and nose.

I am a very good eater, but need to stay on a diet.  I was seriously overweight and now I’m better with good food and exercise.  My foster mom says I’ve lost 7 pounds and need to lose 2-3 more.  I had emergency spinal surgery in April 2010, so diet and exercise are important.  I am used to being groomed every other month or so and do great being bathed, clipped and having my nails trimmed.  My foster mom does this herself and I am compliant.

My energy level is low and calm but I bark with the other dogs or if I hear something outside.  I don’t run around much, but will walk/wander in the back yard.  I love to take walks, and I sleep or lie down a lot of the time, hanging around my foster mom for loving.  I sleep in my carrier or a crate, or with you, if you want.

P.S.  My eyes are BROWN, not red; the red-eye picture is my foster mom’s fault!

If you want me to be your Lucky Charm, please fill out an application with my name on it and email my foster mom at MaryKathleneHarmon@yahoo.com about your interest or with questions, so she can contact you about becoming my new forever home.

My human mom thought my name was silly when I first came to live with her, but it fits me.  I am “The Pook” and my favorite past time is playing!  I play catch for hours on end with my human dad.  He says I have a “big dog” personality.  I am not sure what that means, I just know when he throws the ball I go and get it and we do that over and over until he is exhausted and then we lay down and take a nap.

My family is moving to another state and cannot take me with them, so I need a new forever home.  I am house trained, healthy, up to date on my vaccinations, on heart worm and flea prevention.  I like other dogs and cats, but would do best at a home with no children.

If you think I am the right dog for you, please contact Kimberly at pkhenley@aol.com, so she can talk to you about becoming Pookie’s new forever home.

Tito ~ Courtesy Posting

*This is a courtesy posting.  FLDR bears no responsibility, present or future, in the adoption of Tito.

Name:  Tito
Age:  6 years old
Sex:  Male
Weight:  13 lbs.
Spayed/Neutered:  Neutered
Coat:  Smooth
Color:  Red
Location:  Oviedo, FL

Tito is a chocolate colored short-haired male miniature dachshund who is 6 years old and has a special need.  He is neutered and has been taken to the Vets office every year for his shots and is on heartworm preventative.  He is very obedient and extremely smart.  He’s very playful, but not necessarily fond of little kids or cats.  He does like other dogs (he loves his own kind).  He loves to give kisses and loves to be taken on neighborhood walks.  He can bring lots of joy to any home.

On February of 2010, Tito suffered a back injury that occurred with no warning and as a result he is no longer able to utilize his back legs.  Due to his injury, he also suffers from incontinence; therefore, he needs to be expressed at least 2-3 times a day to avoid him suffering from kidney stones or other related issues.  The vet’s office taught the family how to express him and we use pee-pads to express him on.  Tito also requires the use of diapers in the house, as he is capable of leaving something behind.  So to avoid any messes, I use baby diapers and cut a hole in the back (they’re cheaper than dog diapers).

Since I was not able to afford the surgery and recovery was not guaranteed, I then looked into getting Tito a ‘cart’.  Tito has become a ‘pro’ at getting around in his cart.  He knows to back-up and how to get around corners.  He can run after his ball or toy.  He is truly a trooper!  I ordered the cart from one of the best companies, so it’s a good sturdy cart to help him get around for the rest of his life.

I am looking for a new home, not just any home, only someone who can truly care for Tito and love him unconditionally.  Tito was my family’s first pet and he’s been with us since he was 8 months old.  So any pet lover would know how much they become a part of your life.  After 1.5 years of Tito’s special need, I am very sad to say that I am forced to find a new home for Tito.

If you think he is the right dog for you, please contact Evelyn Quintana at 407-695-7062 (please leave a message if voicemail comes on) or email her at evelyn.quintana@sodexo.com, so she can contact you about becoming Tito’s new forever home.
