My name is Dexter! I am a two year old smooth black and tan guy. I came into rescue after my military dad had to take an overseas assignment and would no longer be able to devote the time and attention I would need due to his job. I am very healthy and happy. I have been very well taken care of and love to be around my humans. I was an only dog before I came into my foster home and although I don’t mind being an only dog I absolutely love the new friends I have made here and I love to play and wrestle and hope that in my new forever home that I might have some brothers or sisters to play with. I love to go for walks and be outside. I have a doggie door here that I love to run in and out of. My foster mom says that I have a wonderful personality and am very sweet and easily fit in where ever I am at. Besides going for walks and playing with the other doggies here…I love to watch and chase butterflies and dragonflies…I will sit outside for hours watching and chasing them. I do have a lot of energy so my new home with have to be sure to keep up with my walks…in fact I enjoy walking so much that sometimes I walk the other dogs here in my foster home. Foster mom will have the leashes on the others and I figure I should help out so I like to grab the leash with my teeth and start walking my foster brothers and/or sisters all around. Foster mom also says I am very helpful…some of the other doggies here are still learning how to use the doggie door so I have no problem showing them and teaching them how to come in and go out. One of the little dogs here doesn’t like to push the doggie door open so when she barks I gladly go over to the door and hold open the flap for her so she can come in and then I go back to playing. I am crate trained and do have my own little bachelor pad I like to hang out in and will stay in while you are gone and sometimes I like to sleep in there at night but I would much rather be curled up with the rest of the pack or in the big bed with you. I am potty trained and if the doggie door is closed I will go to the door and whine to let you know I need to potty. I do have one slight issue and that is that I get so excited and want to go out and explore the world that sometimes I will run out the front door without my leash on and foster mom says that’s very bad for me to do since I could get lost or hit by a car but I get so excited and enjoy being free that in that split second of hitting the door I just run and run so it is very important that I have a secure fenced in backyard and that when not in a fenced in area I am on a leash at all times. I enjoy going for rides in the car. There are no cats around here so I am not too sure about those but there is a guinea pig that lives here that I like to sniff but his house is too high up for me to reach which foster mom says is probably a good thing. I haven’t really been around kids but my foster mom says I am so laid back and easy going and listen (except when I run out the door to explore the neighborhood) that I should do well with kids and I would love to have lots of attention and someone to play with even if it means two legged brothers and sisters. I have a clean bill of health and am ready to find my new forever home and get settled into my new life. I am currently in the Panhandle/Ft. Walton Beach area of Florida and if you think I could come home and be a part of your family…please fill out an application with my name on it! My foster mom and I would be happy to answer any questions you have about me so feel free to email us at amers199@gmail.com.
